It's not freezing cold nor am I feeling cold, I'm just a bit happy that it's freeze period at work today! :) Just a short overview, I work in the IT department of one of the major financial institutions. Freeze or peak period means majority of system changes are halted, so that usually results to less issues...hurray!!! Starting now till first week of January will be, sort of, a "holiday" for us (hopefully). Things are usually quiet at work but downside is we need to be extra vigilant and be alert of any issuE.

I went to a short HongKong getaway with my brothers from other mothers. It was a rush booking as airline sales are often snapped up fast. I remember crossing the street trying to book flights on my phone while on a call trying to get Emman's (whom we fondly call BB Bear) travel details. It's hard to book flights on sales like this as the site is usually very slow and keeps timing out. Finally, I made a successful booking and so we went to HK. Our main goal was to visit our friend , Allan, and do photowalks all over HK. I'll be blogging about our trip soon (I hope I'll have the time). For now, I would like to share the travel vid I made. Sadly I lost majority of the vids I took, so most of the clips are from our Disneyland visit. I stayed at Medori Putih Homestay. I chose this as it has lots of positive reviews and it is near the beach. I decided to just chill on my last day in Bali and explore the Uluwatu beaches. My day started with a simple but yummy breakfast. Coffee was great too! I decided to have my lunch in Kuta beach. The place is so serene! I went in search of a restaurant and settled on one overlooking the blue ocean. The view was so amazing and it didn't hurt that they served yummy dishes too! Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the restaurant but it is just outside the big Kuta mall. The next day was a sunrise tour again to Lake Tamblingan. My Driver/Guide was a bit late and we were rushing going to Lake Tamblingan. During the journey up the mountain, the sun was rising and it was so beautiful! It was still dark but the horizon was a blend of red and gold. I tried to take a picture but was unsuccessful as all the pics were blurry. Luckily, we arrived in Lake Tamblingan in time. The sun was not yet up but the place was getting bright. There were groups of people doing prenup shots for 2 couples. The last part of the trip will be spent catching the sunset in Tanah Lot but my guide said it was still too early to go there. After Taman Ayun, he instead took me to this spot where he said not many tourists know. Unfortunately, I forgot the name but it felt like I was in a different place. The vast blue ocean and the waves hammering the rocks makes the place so scenic. It felt like I was in Hawaii or somewhere similar. It's also good that not many people were there. I think there were only around 5 tourists when we left. There is also a sacred shrine which was closed at that time. When we got there, it was only me and my guide so we got a chance to really talk. I asked him about his family and he showed me the pic of his cute 5 yr old daughter. I asked if he also brings his wife to places like this since its very ideal for couples, but he said they are not fond of dates. They prefer to just stay at home or within their village. I was wondering how on earth they could ignore all these beautiful romantic places! But it dawned on me that as this is their home, the places I was so amazed of, most likely looks normal to them. My guide picked me up early morning to catch the sunrise near Mt. Batur area. It was dark when we reached the mini ricefield. I was wondering why my guide brought me there as the place was nothing special. It's just a patch of rice field with a normal looking mountain in the background. It was also so cold! My guide forgot to tell me that it's icy cold during this time and I was in shorts! Lucky I had a shawl with me which can only do little to ease the cold. Well, its better than nothing. He also had the nerve to laugh at me while I was shivering waiting for the sunrise. Eventually, we went back to the van to wait for Mr. Sun... :) After Tirta Empul, we went to another Hindu temple complex named Gunung Kawi. It holds one of Bali's oldest and largest ancient monuments. You need to go down the river valley via a steep stone stairway. There are 270 steps but I didnt mind as the view was spectacular. You will pass by a manmade irrigation stream as well as the vast rice terraces on both sides. At the bottom, you will find the majestic monuments. I didn't book any tour for my 2nd day in Bali. I woke up a bit late so my morning plans to have breakfast in Campuhan Ridge Walk and do yoga in Yoga Barn were scrapped. I instead had my breakfast at the veranda outside my room. The yummy breakfast meal + very good coffee + the awesome view of the pool & rice paddies = perfect way to start the day.
Last year, I spent my birthday in Bali. Honestly, I don't really plan to go somewhere as I am not fond of celebrating my birthday. It just so happens that whenever I get tempting airline promos, I would then realize that the perfect time to book those trips is on my birthday. Spending the moment with peace and quiet is very much enticing. And so, last November 2013, I booked a Bali trip for my 2014 birthday. |
